MilViz has announced it will no longer support FSX and will be focusing exclusively on Prepar3D (P3D) version 4.4 and above.
The management team over at MilViz said one of the main reason for ceasing support for the platform is the materials. Once switching to PBR (Physically Based Rendering), it’s exceedingly costly and difficult to maintain two distinct model/material sets for FSX and P3D.
Another issue is maintaining code for 32-bit and 64-bit software. The 64-bit platform is more flexible and offers more features than is possible in 32-bit. In addition, to keep 32-bit compatibility means maintaining two code streams.
MilViz concluded: “We’d much rather go with the nice stuff and put our efforts into making our products look AND act great.”
